I am trying to gather information about Travelling People often referred to as Tinkers and Gypsies. Any specific information relating to family names, campsites, work, or local records would be very helpful. I am also interested any general information. I would be interested in buying any old photographs of Travellers. Any information would be appreciated.

I recently came across your website regarding the history of the Hall, Russell & Company when I was doing a search for a Hall and Russell family from Aberdeenshire. I was just wondering if any literature exists on the early history of the company. I would be interested in knowing if whether or not these Hall and Russell families are related to the ones I am researching.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A very interesting account of Jim's visit to the Lighthouse Museum. I'll have to look out for his books particularly the one about the dam builders.

I am currently researching the SPALDING name in Scotland. Would love to hear from anyone who can help out.
I was born in Elgin, my father in Edinburgh as were all of his ancestors back to my GGG grandfather who was born in St Nicholas, Aberdeen in 1794.

Thanks for any help that's possible

Best regards

I am researching the history of women working in the building trades in Scotland. I have built up a database of women doing this work in the 19th and early 20th century and would now like to find any women who did building trades work before 1970. They will obviuosly therefore be over about60. I am particularly interested to know if any women worked in these trades before 1950.
The work might have been in anything like bricklaying, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical fitting, masonry, concrete and steelwork, scaffolding, labouring, operating cranes and diggers etc.
I am as interested in unpaid informal work, perhaps done for family or on a farm, as I am in formal paid employment.
thanks

We would encourage people to send us 'Your Story'; a memory of the past, e.g. going to the shops on a Saturday with your pocket money to buy '10p mixtures', Kola Kubes, Sherbet Fountains, etc. Oral History is the 'People's History', so we want to hear from the people!

As we commemorate 60 years since VJ Day, the BBC is collecting the biggest ever online archive of WW2 memories for future generations to access. We are gathering written stories about all aspects of war-time life, from rationing on the Home Front to heroism on the Front Line, for publication on the internet ( www.bbc.co.uk/ww2 ). As with all internet material, stories contributed to the BBC People’s War archive are accessible to internet users world-wide.

We would be most grateful if visitors to this website would be so kind as to contribute their war-time memories direct to our archive before January 2006. No story is too big or too small for inclusion in the collection and memories can be contributed by young people on behalf of elderly friends and relatives. Just click on www.bbc.co.uk/ww2 to contribute a story direct, or call the People's War Action Line in Scotland (Tel: 08000 564 756) to request a story form or to volunteer as a story-gatherer.

We look forward to hearing from you!

Kind regards

If you place you cursor over the projects link on the home page, you'll see a photo of a Kittybrewster football team. Can anyone provide me with any details of this? I'd be much obliged.
