Joint Projects/ Publications
In our capacity as a forum for the exchange of material with other groups and individuals, AROHA aims to set up joint venture projects that can span the City and the Shire, in order to get a wider and more complete historical picture of the region. To achieve this we would:
- Work in conjunction with other groups with similar interests to assist with their research and to provide advice if necessary.
- Select themes for major projects that will naturally include City and Shire, for example farming.
- Co-ordinate an archiving system to preserve the voice of the North-East and to make the records accessible to students and the general public.
Publications - New
AROHA's founder member, Lisa Savijn was the editor of several publications through Aberdeen's City Oral History Unit. Two of those were written by our mascot, Lizzie Finlayson, whose first book was published when she was 91! No Way to Live was billed as 'A story of tough beginnings and lifelong friends' and was indeed inspired by a true friendship set in early 20th century Torry. Lizzie's second book Annie Fae Invercauld was the story of a laird's daughter who wanted to decide her own destiny much to her cost in Aberdeen, which Lisa described as a 'riches to rags' story. It included some of Lizzie's short stories including her 'miracle' which was exactly that.
AROHA has a stock of these two books - if you would like to purchase them, please click on the links below to go to the online bookselling site, Amazon and you can purchase directly from there. UK and Europe post only at present. The postage fees are set by Amazon.
